Energy efficiency programs from Black Hills Energy helped Colorado residential customers save more than 905,000 kWh in 2025
PUEBLO, Colo. – May 29, 2026 – Energy efficiency programs from Black Hills Energy helped Colorado residential customers save more than 905,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity in 2025, the company said today in a year-end recap. That’s enough to power approximately 107 single-family homes for a year.
Those savings were part of Black Hills Energy’s broader portfolio of energy efficiency programs, which achieved more than 10.4 million kWh in total savings across the company’s Colorado electric service territory in 2025 through residential, commercial & industrial, electrification, school-based and income-qualified programs.
While Black Hills Energy offers energy efficiency programs year-round, the company encourages customers to take advantage of available rebates and no-cost offerings to help manage summer energy expenses. Increased cooling demands during warmer months often lead to higher energy use, making this an ideal time to explore energy-saving upgrades. To support these efforts, Black Hills Energy provides a range of programs, including the recently launched Moderate-Income Residential Program.
“Customers are looking for practical ways to lower energy use and manage costs, especially during hot Southern Colorado summers,” said Derrick Brown, Energy Efficiency Program Coordinator at Black Hills Energy. “Smart thermostats, insulation upgrades and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems were some of the most popular upgrades among customers in 2025 and can make a meaningful difference in both comfort and monthly bills.”
The Moderate-Income Residential Program expands access to rebates and energy efficiency upgrades for households earning between 80% and 150% of the area median income. Incentives may cover up to 50% of total project costs, helping make energy-saving upgrades more affordable for qualifying customers.
Rebates for the program are available for a range of high-efficiency upgrades, including:
- HVAC equipment, including smart thermostats, air source heat pumps, ductless mini splits, room air conditioners and evaporative coolers
- Appliance and equipment upgrades, including ceiling fans, dehumidifiers and ENERGY STAR®-certified dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers
- Weatherization improvements, including air sealing, insulation, duct sealing and low-E storm windows, to keep cool air in and hot air out
While residential programs continue to expand access to energy efficiency, Black Hills Energy’s commercial and industrial programs also delivered significant savings in 2025. The Small Business Direct Install Program helped 75 local businesses save nearly 1.9 million kWh. The New Construction Program exceeded expectations and supported energy-efficient design and construction across multiple new building projects and major renovations in the region.
