Join us as we celebrate a Ribbon Cutting for the Pueblo Heritage Museum's new exhibit, Building Pueblo: A Legacy of Black Communities!
In honor of Black History Month, this celebration will pay tribute to the African American community through a historical lens by highlighting the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ruth Steele, and others who marched in Washington D.C. and Selma, Alabama. After the ribbon cutting celebration, the Museum will host a lecture by Mr. Ray Brown starting at 6:00pm.
Mr. Brown, will talk on the history of the Lincoln Home, Colorado’s only known Black orphanage. Founded in 1904, the Lincoln Home provided care and education for African American children and was supported by all 16 Federated Colored Women’s Clubs across Colorado, highlighting a powerful legacy of Black women’s advocacy and community leadership.
About the speaker: Ray Brown is a Colorado native, Army veteran, former educator, and community leader with deep ties to Pueblo and a lifelong commitment to history, civic engagement, and public service.
